Creating a sensor that saves lives

Every day, people are artificially ventilated by a ventilator. At the heart of the ventilator is a gas flow sensor on a chip, just a few millimeters in size. A chip manufactured by Sensirion. But how is such a sensor created?

We take a tour of production facility and logistics in Stäfa.

After all, many steps are taken before the sensor is ready. The process starts with a thin silicon disc called a wafer, which has a diameter of 200 mm and a thickness of less than 1 mm, and ends in the logistics department when it is shipped to international customers.
